Glass IndyCar

Vehicle Techncial Visualisation

Vehicle Visualisation - A detailed transparent model of the 2024 IndyCar. A personal project to stress test some new hardware and show fans the inside of these awesome cars in a unique and engaging way.

A WORK IN PROGRESS

Evaluating a new PC and RTX 4090 GPU card was the excuse for creating this unique look inside the 2024 IndyCar

Tasks: 3D Modelling, UV Mapping, Rigging, Shading and Rendering

Tools: Blender, Cycles

Client: Personal Project - IndyCar

Agency/Studio: Direct

Team Members: Just me

Final full-length test render of the glass IndyCar. The samples are a little too low at the start-up until we see the full cell, so there is a bit of jitter in the carbon textures to start. For Blender Cycles users out there, frames vary from 1 minute at 512 max samples for the engine and gearbox and then 2 minutes + at 1024 max samples for the rest, which gives a cleaner result but obviously takes longer to process. There's also a jump on the fuel tank where I tested out using a higher light path count. I've probably gone a bit over the top with the post effects. Maybe dial them down 50%. Also, the glass is too refractive at the moment, so I need to bring that down a bit to make the inner details more visible, especially around the chassis and wheels.

As always, a huge thank you to the guys at Indycar and Dallara for letting me use their CAD as a starting point to build this very intricate model of the current car. Without their help, I'm not sure it would be close to this level of detail and would have taken an age to pull together.
